Partnership to focus on work in Direct Provision

Wednesday, 17th February. Depaul have announced a three-year partnership with leading law firm William Fry . The partnership will have a specific focus on the charity’s work within Direct Provision and will seek to support both people currently living in Direct Provision and those exiting the system and moving into independent living.

The partnership will look to focus on a number of key areas including travel costs, resettlement packs and support with language barriers through interpreters and translators. It will also seek to support those in the Direct Provision system by providing pro bono legal support on issues such as appealing decisions on protection status, the right to work, family unification and housing rights.

Speaking on the partnership Managing Partner with William Fry Owen O’Sullivan says;

“We are delighted to announce Depaul as one of our community charities for the next three years. The work they are doing to support people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness is more important than ever in light of the ongoing pandemic. We are particularly excited to support the Cosán Nua programme, which helps people that have received the right to remain in the country to transition from direct provision into the community. Our partnership will help provide a positive start and deliver much needed practical and meaningful support to these families as they begin their new lives in the community.”

Mairéad McGinn, Director of Fundraising & Communications with Depaul says;

“Depaul is delighted to have been selected as a William Fry Community Partner 2021-2023. Their support and expertise will be invaluable to Depaul over the course of our 3-year partnership and specifically, to our Cosán Nua service. This specialised service supports people living in Direct Provision who have received their right to remain to move into their own homes. William Fry’s partnership will ensure we can continue to provide meaningful support to individuals and families leaving direct provision and ensure their successful integration in the community.”
