It’s hard to imagine not having a front door to close behind you. Or having to carry your life’s belongings in one bag, through the wet and windy streets. It’s hard for most of us to even imagine this during the ‘normal’ times.
Now imagine trying to do this during a life threatening pandemic. Often our most fragile are faced with a double threat to their health – homeless, in poor health and socially isolated. With a pandemic this year the situation looked even bleaker.
With unbelievable support, Depaul were there to set up shielding units and bring the most fragile in. One Depaul staff member recalls a man in one of the units upon seeing his new room. He was so overcome when he saw the small room he’d be living in during lockdown, that he broke down in tears. “He couldn’t believe it was for him,”
With a vaccine on the horizon, things are starting to look up…
But there is still a long way to go in this fight and our most fragile homeless are still at risk. We need to….
