Clare was already struggling to make ends meet when she got the call…
“Your rent’s going up.”
It wasn’t long after that she and her little girl, Gracie, lost their home. But they’re far from the only ones…
In Clare’s words:
“I’d say to Gracie – ‘Oh, our home’s gone and got lost. But don’t worry, we’ll find another one.’
Because how do you explain to your child that you’re homeless?”
Families all across the island of Ireland are squeezed into temporary spaces — hotel rooms, homeless hostels, or overcrowded accommodation with shared bathrooms.
And for parents like Clare, the summer holiday is the hardest time of all.
With school closed, there’s no structure, no break, and no free school meals to rely on. Every day is a struggle to stretch an already tiny budget even further.
Including Gracie, 23,242 children are experiencing homelessness in Ireland and Northern Ireland right now. That’s a record.
“There are days when you just don’t know how you’ll get by.”
But your kindness today can help put a family like Clare’s on the path out of homelessness — a dedicated child care key worker to guide her through the complex process, practical support with paperwork and other life skills, and emotional support, because no parent should have to carry this burden alone.
Please, will you help put a family like Clare’s on the path to a permanent home?
When Clare’s landlord raised the rent, she knew she was in trouble. First, she cut back on food. That’s something we hear often here at Depaul — desperate parents going hungry so they can feed their kids and try to make ends meet..
Your kindness could literally change the lives of families within Depaul’s services.
YES, I’ll give the gift to help a family find a way back home >>
Thank you for anything you can donate today to help give a little family like Clare and Gracie a fresh start.
