Meet BARRY, and hear about A Rainy Evening That nearly shattered him

On a cold, rainy evening, Barry sat under his battered umbrella, soaked to the skin and feeling utterly defeated. The wind kept blowing his umbrella upside down, leaving him exposed to the relentless rain.

In Barry’s words:

“I was sitting under that umbrella, crying my eyes out, just thinking — what has my life come to?”

The winds howled, and with each gust, Barry felt more and more lost. His story is one of heartbreak:

  • His dad committed suicide when Barry was just a teenager.
  • His mum passed away last year, leaving him grief-stricken and homeless.
  • He now carries her ashes with him everywhere, terrified to sleep in case they get wet or stolen.

“When it rains, everything gets soaked—your clothes, your sleeping bag, everything. You wish you could just fall asleep and never wake up.”

But in the midst of his despair, Barry found a lifeline with Depaul. A warm bowl of soup, a dry bed, and a kind word gave him something he hadn’t felt in a long time—hope.

You can offer that same hope to someone like Barry today.
