Homelessness Charity Depaul appeals for help to provide ‘Presents For All’

With the help of business and community groups Depaul is extending Christmas to everyone in its services

Thursday, 9th November 2017. Homelessness charity Depaul today launches its annual appeal to businesses and community groups to get involved in Presents For All, a programme that enables the charity to provide a Christmas gift and sense of kindness and optimism to every one of the more than 700 vulnerable men, women and children in its Dublin services. The charity collects all donated presents by 15th December and hosts a festive present Wrapping Morning for all participating businesses and groups that want to get involved.

Businesses can choose a specific Depaul service to help such as a family service, a service for homeless women or an emergency hostel and then shop for presents which can be brought back to their workplace for a Presents For All Day in the office or brought to the Depaul Presents for All Wrapping Morning on December 15th. Presents For All is a great way for the businesses to engage in corporate social responsibility, team-building and getting in the festive spirit. Presents of toys, clothes and toiletries are all welcome.

To get involved with Presents For All or to find further information, companies need to register by November 24th 2017 here Last year the campaign received over 600 present, an increase of 39% in the number of presents received year on year. Now that Depaul manages Brú Aimsir another emergency hostel which accommodates 101 people, the charity needs even more support with the initiative.

Depaul CEO Kerry Anthony commented on Presents for All;

“For people living in homelessness, every day is a struggle but Christmas can be especially lonely. There are currently over 8,000 homeless people in our country. There are 3,048 children in families with a parent struggling to give their child a sense of the Christmas that children who are not struggling in homelessness experience. Our services are filled with people with complex needs, victims of the housing crisis, people that feel completely alone. By ensuring that every single person in Depaul services receives a present this Christmas, we know that the most vulnerable are not without a human connection.”

Now in its 11th year, Depaul recognises the positive impact of Presents for All has on the hundreds of people it touches each year, ensuring the most vulnerable in society that they have not been forgotten, and bringing a semblance of joy to a dark time in their lives when they may be separated from loved ones.
